TB-020 Flavors and Extracts

This document discusses the production of flavors, focusing on natural flavors derived from various sources and the importance of filtration in ensuring high-quality flavor compounds for use in consumer products.

Flavors, whether natural or artificial, play a crucial role in packaged foods and consumer goods. The demand for natural flavors has increased due to consumer preferences for safer and organic ingredients. Natural flavors are derived from various sources like plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms, requiring complex extraction processes. The production of flavorings often results in high levels of solids that need to be removed before packaging. Polypropylene depth filters like Stratum A and Stratum C are effective at capturing deformable particles, ensuring high-quality flavors. Pleated products like QXL offer better flow rates and may provide adequate  depth for capturing particles.
